New York City!!

For Matthew's 7th birthday, we took a long weekend in New York City, which for some reason had captivated his interest.

Robert and I had crossed the street successfully, while Sam and Matthew had to wait for the light to change back to green, so here they are, disguised as normal New York people

First stop was Grand Central, which was featured in one of Matthew's favorite movies, Madagascar.

One day we visited the Natural History museum, which was just a short (well, fifteen-block) walk up from where we were staying (in the Mandarin Oriental, just off Columbus Circle). The boys loved this museum; Sam and I were hard-pressed to get them out of there in time for lunch!!

Another day we went to "The Top of the Rock," which is the newly-reopened observation platform on top of Rockafeller Plaza.

We went out to a couple of fancy restaurants and made the boys dress up. I'm pretty sure this is the first time they've ever been in "real" suits!!!!

We also went to check out the WWII aircraft carrier Intrepid, and got a pleasant surprise to find a decommissioned Concorde parked there! The Concorde, for some reason, is another of Matthew's long-time obsessions, so it was great to finally see one up close.

And Matthew decided to run the entire length of the runway (stopping just before reaching the end!!!).

Here are the boys again, looking all serious, back in our room about to leave for dinner

And then it was time to return to Milwaukee. On the flight home, somebody found out it was Matthew's birthday, and he got to go to the front of the plane and even sit in the pilot's seat!! So these pictures were taken as the plane was actually up at crusing altitude.
